Chimpanzee mother with baby, wildlife shot, Gombe/Tanzania stock photoA female "Chimp" (Common Chimpanzee, Pan troglodytes) is sitting with her baby in a tree. SHOT IN WILDLIFE in Gombe Stream National Park in Western Tanzania. Gombe National Park is located directly at the shores of Lake Tanganyika, the terrain is distinguished by steep valleys, and the forest vegetation ranges from grassland to alpine bamboo to tropical rainforest.Chimpanzees are members of the Hominidae family, along with gorillas, humans, and orangutans and are the closest living evolutionary relatives to humans beeings. Before 1960, almost nothing was known about chimpanzee behaviour in their natural habitat. This changed after Jane Goodall began her studies about the chimpanzees in Gombe - she pionieered the research on the chimpanzees and the research work in Gombe is still going on.
